Leumi Awarded Maala Index’s Highest Rating for Social Responsibility-The Platinum Plus Ranking
The Maala Index seeks to honor and recognize those companies who make social responsibility a top priority, and actively work towards the benefit of the community, country and greater environment. The Maala Index recognizes those businesses that not only work towards the benefit of society, but have developed organized plans-of-action in order to achieve such goals.
In the Maala Index for Corporate Responsibility, published on June 10, 2012, Leumi received the highest possible ranking for CSR, the platinum plus ranking.
The Maala Index has been ranking public and private companies on the basis of their social responsibility and community involvement since 2003, and is Israel’s leading advocate for corporate social responsibility (CSR) and good corporate citizenship.
The ranking is based on information provided by companies on a voluntary basis, with participating companies electing to disclose and report information on their own accord and without any legal requirement. Those companies who participate in the Index are those public and private firms with annual turnover rates of about 320 million NIS or more, and who are listed in the D&B Yearbook or on the Tel-Aviv Stock Exchange.
The Maala Index includes 85 firms, including 51 publicly traded and 34 privately traded companies, government firms, and Israeli companies traded on global indices. The Maala rating examines six key categories of corporate responsibility in business: environmental responsibility, business ethics, work environment, community involvement, corporate governance, and management and reporting.
This year, Leumi received the highest Platinum Plus award based on the following scores (out of a possible 10 points):
Business ethics: 10
Work Environment: 9
Community Involvement: 8
Environmental Responsibility: 10
Corporate Governance: 8
