Instructions for securing your PC:
- Use an antivirus on your computer and update it regularly.
- Use anti spyware software and update it regularly.
- Use a Personal Firewall on the PC.
- Use a new version of your preferred browser (such as Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox 3.5, Safari 3.2, Opera 9.5, and Google Chrome, or the latest versions available).
- Update your computer's operating system, browser and other common software with security patches.
- Do not keep any personal identification information on your computer to avoid exposure to Trojan Horses or file-sharing software (such as e-Mule), which enable access to files on the computer.
- Avoid installing unrecognized software on your computer.
- Avoid downloading unrecognized files from the Internet.
- We recommend automatically deleting temporary files upon closing the browser. In Internet Explorer this can be done through the Tools menu > Internet Options > Advanced > Empty Temporary Internet Files folder, when the browser is closed. For other browsers, please delete temporary files as necessary.
Instructions for wireless network users:
- Change the default user name and password on the wireless router.
- Securing wireless communications using a wireless encryption protocol such as WPA is recommended.
