Leumi Wins Awards
Award for Leumi's "Talking ATM" Service
As part of the IT Awards Competition for 2013, during which Leumi was awarded a total of six prizes, Leumi won the accessibility award and a prize in the competitive advantage category for its unique service – "The Talking ATM", in the IT Awards Competition 2013, from "People and Computers " magazine.
The judges explained that "the project provides accessibility, is of particular importance and most praiseworthy. It is designed to help the blind and visually impaired persons who make use of the Bank's ATM services. The project is based on a combination of a dynamic TTS (Text to Speech) sound engine, allowing translation of text to voice in real time, with the ATM. The system enables people with disabilities to hear all the latest information that appears on the ATM screen. This is an impressive project of major social importance, in addition to its business value."
The "Talking ATM" service is based on the most advanced system of its kind in Israel, with a dynamic sound engine that converts text to voice in real time, and so was called "The Talking ATM". The accessible ATM system is activated by plugging a standard headphone jack (such as a smartphone headset) into the designated ATM socket.
