Cash via SMS

Leumi announced the launching of a new and exclusive service today, as a part of "Leumi Digital" services: "Cash via SMS." The service will be launched as a pilot on December 15th 2009 and, as of January, it will be accessible to all customers at all the bank's ATMs

The pilot procedure will also be innovative and the first of its kind in Israel. The bank's customers, who wish to try out this service, will be able to register for individual participation through the bank's website, www.leumi.co.il, registering for Leumi LABSLeumi's innovative laboratory. It will include new projects developed at the bank; enabling customers to register as initial testers of the services, inviting them to put forward proposals and create a dialogue to bring new ideas.

"Cash via SMS" service is unique and innovative in Israel. The service facilitates transferring money from a customer's account and withdrawals by third parties using Leumi's ATM, without the necessity of using a magnetic card. The customer simply sends a one-time code to the mobile phone of the designated payee.

This transaction is executed through the "Direct Browsing" service on Leumi's website.
A customer wishing to transfer any sum whatsoever to any payee of their choice will login to "Direct Browsing," execute the transfer transaction and enter the payee's details. At the end of the transaction, a cellular code will be sent to the payee, who will be able to withdraw the sum specified at any of the bank's ATMs.  Cash withdrawals from the ATM will be possible by entering the code received on the cellular telephone, the payee's birth date and the transfer sum, without the necessity of identification via a magnetic card as is currently conventional at all ATMs.

Leumi Banking Division head, Mr. Baruch Lederman said that this service is in line with the perception that characterizes "Leumi Digital" - Absolute availability to customers, simplicity with products and services and attractiveness and savings for customers. "We have identified this attractive service as a need for many customers, and it has been developed accordingly by the bank's technological and IT staff. This service will facilitate customers transferring cash to their children in the army service, to a good friend who has lost his wallet or for any other purpose anywhere in Israel twenty-four hours a day," said Lederman.
